WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANTS
WWTP applications create unique challenges since coatings must withstand a full gamut factors. By design, the contents are acidic and chemicals that are used to oxidize and neutralize them attack all surfaces. The tanks are typically located outside in the elements, so rain, freeze/thaw cycles, and UV exposure all work against the coatings. As regulations push municipalities away from traditional
chlorine systems into UV systems, algae growth is substantial and more aggressive cleaning (high pressure washing) is required. Lastly, mechanical abrasion and damage can be caused by agitation equipment and scrapers that malfunction or are not maintained properly and are allowed to contact the surfaces.
